CBO BASED IN ISIOLO COUNTY

Who we are

LEARN-Waso is a CBI formed with total focus on supporting the indigenous communities of Isiolo County in sustainable use of land and natural resources with major aim of securing land tenure, protecting environment and livelihoods, and creating a progressive society.

The membership of this CBI is composed of Seven (7) pioneer members formerly of WTL board/secretariat; and another additional nine (9) members picked from amongst local grassroots partner groups/associations as its representatives.

In terms of governance, the organization structure is composed of Annual General Assembly (AGA), Management Committees (MCs) and the Secretariat which is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization

STRATEGIC AREAS OF FOCUS

The specific objectives of the organization are: -

  • To empower local communities towards securing communal land tenure.
  • To advocate for environment conservation and proper utilization of locally available natural resources.
  • To ensure economic and social rights of the concerned constituents; through advanced social-economical accountability mechanisms.
  • To promote the practices of traditional cultures and peaceful coexistences among the indigenous communities of the region.
  • To create a resilient community that enjoys abundant natural resources and progressive living.
  • To provide the constituents and larger stakeholders with factual information to support advocacy works through evidence based research and documentations.
  • To promote inter-generation learning and knowledge bank platforms for use by current and future generations.

In order to effectively realize the above identified objectives; the organization has identified the following five (5) thematic program for its strategic focus: -

I. Community Land Rights, Use and Administration.
II. Environment and Natural Resource Management.
III. Human Rights, Governance and Social Economic Developments.
IV. Livelihoods and Climate Change. V. Research, Documentation and Learning.
