PARAAN to Convene Fifth General Assembly Meeting in Nanyuki

The Pastoralists Alliance for Resilience and Adaptation Across Nations (PARAAN) will convene its Fifth General Assembly Meeting on 16–17 September 2026 in Nanyuki, Laikipia County. The Assembly will bring together PARAAN’s 37 subscribed member organizations from Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania, alongside selected goodwill partners working on issues aligned with PARAAN’s vision. Each member organization and partner will be allocated one representative slot at the Assembly.

The Fifth General Assembly comes at an important point in PARAAN’s institutional development and collective work as a regional platform championing the interests of Indigenous Pastoralist Communities and Minority Groups across the greater East African region. It will provide an important space for members to reflect on progress, strengthen institutional accountability, deliberate on emerging priorities and collectively shape the Alliance’s next phase.

A key focus of the Assembly will be institutional accountability and governance. Members will review and formally adopt the PARAAN Annual Report 2025 and the Financial Audit Report 2024/2025, as well as review and adopt key governance and policy documents.

The Assembly will also facilitate a significant leadership transition, providing a platform for the constitution of PARAAN’s new leadership. This process will mark an important moment for continuity, renewal and collective stewardship of the Alliance.

In addition, members will review and approve the PARAAN Annual Workplan 2026/2027, deliberate on membership matters and discuss broader strategic directions for the Alliance. These discussions will help ensure that PARAAN’s priorities and actions continue to respond to the realities, aspirations and rights of the Indigenous peoples, pastoralist communities and minority groups represented through its membership.

The General Assembly is therefore more than an annual institutional meeting. It is an opportunity for PARAAN members to reflect, account, deliberate and collectively determine the direction of the Alliance.

The Fifth General Assembly: strengthening collective leadership, accountability and action for Indigenous Peoples and pastoralist communities across East Africa.
